With the advancement of age and the effect of gravity, skin loosening, excess and sagging occur in the eyebrows, upper and lower eyelids, and there may be bagging, especially with the proliferation of fat tissues in the lower eyelids. This situation can be observed in problems such as drooping upper eyelids covering the front of the eye, blocking the field of vision of the person, as well as causing an aesthetic appearance disorder. With aesthetic eyelid surgery, excess skin is removed and the membrane in front of the herniated adipose tissue is strengthened and-or the excess fat mass is removed. In this way, both a beautiful appearance is obtained and the person can see comfortably.
How is blepharoplasty done?
If eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is to be performed only on the upper eyelid, the operation can be performed with local anesthesia. This operation time does not exceed 1 hour. The amount of skin and eyebrows to be removed is determined by drawings. This process, which is applied to cause a line to be hidden in the fold line of the lid in appropriate sizes, provides sufficient tension on the eyelid. In some cases, the fat pads in the inner and middle parts may be too visible. With a little surgical intervention, they can be reduced as well.
When only the lower eyelid is operated, the lower eyelid skin is lifted with an incision made just below the eyelashes. Rarely, it may be necessary to reduce the fat pads. The spread of fat packs to the edge of the eye socket plays a major role in correcting the depression that occurs under the eye. If this spreading process is not sufficient, oil injection can be done to remove the depressions. Since lower eyelid aesthetics is mostly performed together with facelift surgery, it is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation varies between 2-4 hours depending on the procedures to be performed.
Who is eyelid aesthetics (Blepharoplasty) suitable for?
Generally, people over the age of 35 who have sagging and bagging in the lower and upper eyelids and people who do not have any other health problems are suitable for this surgery. Eyelid operations can also be performed for reasons such as droopy eyelid, eyelid lift, eyelid lift, sebaceous glands and lubrication on the eyelid.
Will there be any scars after (Blepharoplasty) eyelid surgery?
After eyelid surgery, a scar is left on the upper eyelid along the lid. However, since this trace will be adapted to the lid fold, it can only be seen when viewed very closely. A faint scar remains on the lower eyelid just below the eyelashes, the continuation of the scar looks like a normal skin line on the side. Eyelids are the areas that leave the least scars in this type of surgery.
In cases where the outer edge of the eye should be hung with an eyebrow strap, slanting may be seen in the eyes in the first week. But this situation is decreasing day by day. The scars that will form around the eyelid will become unnoticeable after 1 year because the skin is very thin.
What is the recovery process like after surgery?
There may be some sensitivity and discomfort on the skin after the surgery. In cases where pain is felt, it can be controlled with painkillers. To minimize swelling and bruises, it is recommended to lie with your head elevated and apply cold compresses to your eyes.

At the end of the 5th day, the hidden stitches on the upper eyelid are removed and the stitches on the lower eyelid fall off on their own. Since the eyelid skin is thin and sensitive, swelling and bruising are expected after the surgery. As a result of the first week, these findings will decrease and disappear. You can wear sunglasses to stabilize light sensitivity after surgery.
